Sun protection

09/21/2006

Question:

I am being sent to Kuwait this summer. Besides high SPF sun screen, hat and sun glasses, what else can I do/take along to protect my skin from the intense heat and sun exposure? Thanks.

Answer:

By moving to Kuwait you are going to an area where sun is very intense.  Temperatures are high.  Perspiration is high, and so sun protective material on the surface of the skin often is washed away.  The sunscreens must be reapplied frequently.  There are some sun protective clothing, which have an SPF of 30.  If you are in uniform those would not be allowed.  In any event, wear the highest SPF number you can use.  We like to use Hawaiian Tropic and Bullfrog ointments with SPF ratings of at least 30.  It is going to be protect, protect, protect.
