Breast Feeding

Hair loss

09/19/2006

Question:

I have been feeding my daughter now for five months and heaps of my hair is falling out every day. This happened when I brestfed my son as well is it due to diet or hormones?

Answer:

This is not related to breastfeeding, but more to the end of the pregnancy.

It happens whether you breastfeed or not

Your hair will re-grow.

Be sure your thyroid function is normal, as this sometimes falls after a pregnancy.

Your diet should include a multivitamin and plenty of protein anytime you are breastfeeding.

A healthy diet also will help your hair to return to a normal and healthy amount.
