Sun poison

08/29/2006

Question:

I was at a national park for 3days and from the second day, my lips started to swell and now (3rd day since my lips have swollen) the border of my lips seem to be pussing.

I had the same thing happen to me when I went to Hawaii. Is there anything I can do for treetment??

Answer:

It sounds like you have a severe case of either sunburn or wind burn. In the future use a lip balm that contains sun block with an SPF of 30 in it and try not to lick your lips too often. It should heal on it's own in a couple more days but if there is no change, the puss increases or you run a fever you need to go and see your doctor. If you have no other health issues over the counter anti-inflammatory drugs such as Ibuprofen will help with the discomfort.
