Mollescum

08/18/2006

Question:

Can you swim with mollescum? Will the chlorine kill the infection?

Answer:

Yes, you can swim with molluscum. It is a harmless but contagious viral infection (only infects the skin). One needs to keep that area covered up (for example a swim shirt) or avoid direct contact of the infected areas with others to prevent spreading. Chlorine will not clear or kill it. Molluscum may resolve on its own (may take months or years), or you can see a physician for it.
