What Are These Neck Lumps?07/31/2006 |
I`m a 20 year old female with no history of thyroid cancers in my family. I`ve noticed recently that I have several small nodules in my neck. Some of them hurt when I press on them. I noticed quite a few months back a couple of lumps, but they haven`t grown at all. Those 2 lumps are near my collar bone on my left side. The other bumps I just noticed. Could there be a benign cause to these lumps? Does this sound like cancer?
I'm not sure how you had noticed the lumps initially and how large they are. Enlarged thyroid gland, goiter, with multiple nodules is relatively a common condition and not necessarily malignant. However, other key information such as, the rate of nodule growth, characteristics of nodules under ultrasound, and presence or absence of circulatory anti thyroid antibodies are necessary to decide if fine needle aspiration and cytology are required to answer your question. Therefore, you will need to see an endocrinologist.
