Root Canals |
Old root canal08/08/2006 |
I had a root canal done over 3 years ago. I`ve recently started to experience pain in that same area. Now i`ve come to find out that it should have been capped. I was never told it should have been capped. Is this a normal procedure that you would notify your patient of before leaving from having a root canal?
Most back teeth should have crowns placed on them after root canal treatment (see previous postings). There are exceptions to this rule and, obviously, I can't tell you if your tooth was one of those exceptions. The pain you are experiencing may be totally unrelated to the fact that you did not have a crown placed on the tooth. Then again, it might. You need to be evaluated for the cause of your discomfort and at that time ask if a crown was needed, or why it was not placed.
