Dark spot on gum

08/23/2006

Question:

a dark spot has appeared on the front of my gum directly below one tooth, what caused this. Is this a desease? Shat steps should I take to rid myself of this problem?

Answer:

A dark spot may be due to several reasons:

1.  It may be a leakage from an old restoration.

2.  It may be a pathological development due to an overgrowth of pigmentation cells.

3.  It may be due to heavy smoking etc.

You should visit a dentist to determine the actual cause and necessary treatment.
