Allergies

Sudden allergies in September

09/25/2006

Question:

I am having horrible allergies, which started in the beginning of September. I have never had allergies this time of year, but instead between June-August due to Pollen. I would like to know what is likely to cause such unprecedented allergies, and most importantly, what is the best remedy. My nose is constantly itching and I am constantly sneezing. If it helps, I live in New York, where Pollen-related allergies do not affect me (lack of grasslands). Thank you for your help.

Answer:

This could be the result of ragweed allergy.  Over the counter antihistamines like loratidine and nasalcrom spray may help the itching, sneezing and runny nose.  However, if the symptoms persist, you should see an allergist for further evaluation.
