Anxiety and Stress Disorders (Children)

Performance Anxiety

10/10/2006

Question:

Prior to playing his football games. We try and tell him it`s just a game--we do everything in our power to let him know that we just want him to have fun. He puts so much pressure on himself and will always puke before every game but it`s mostly fluids. Is there any kind of medicine we can give him for nerves? The talking doesn`t seem to work.

Answer:

Performance anxiety can be seen at any age and it may be that "just talking" may work if the therapy is done by a trained professional.  I would seek help on this.
