Osteoporosis

Didrocal for osteoporosis

Question:

I was recently prescribed Didrocal for osteoporosis but as I research it on the Internet, I came across 2 articles which stated that Didrocal was recommended for Paget`s Disease but not for Osteoporosis. Both of these articles were dated 2003. Has there been a change of opinion about prescribing Didrocal for Osteoporosis?

Answer:

Once a drug is approved by the FDA and on the market, it can be used for other purposes if the clinician finds it to be in the best interest of the patient.  Most of the time clinicians use the drugs that have approved indication for the purpose in mind, but that may not work in every situation.
