I am 63 years old and had a colonoscopy in 1999. There is no history of colon cancer in my family and I have had no problems. Should I wait the full 10 years to have another test? Thank you
If you have no family history of colon cancer or polyps, have not had any symptoms such as rectal bleeding or changes in your stool habits, and if on your first colonoscopy there were not polyps removed, then a 10 year follow-up is appropriate.
Otherwise, you should have a repeat colonoscopy after 5 years.
