Asthma-like Symptoms11/08/2006 |
After a methacholine challenge test, my doctor said the results showed mild "asthma-like" results. Asthma medications do not relief the symptoms, primarily coughing, nor do GERD or allergy medications. I know you can`t diagnose, but any suggestions of other possibilities?
A positive methacholine challenge test means that you have bronchial hyperresponsiveness. In your case this manifests as a cough, which is referred to as the cough equivalent syndrome. This condition often evolves into asthma. There are effective medications for this. Ask your doctor and if he is not familiar with these treatments, he may help you obtain a second opinion.
