Sickle Cell Anemia Outside of African Americans

Question:

Is it impossible for a white male from Russia to have sickle cell anemia. What are the chances of that?

Answer:

It would be unusual but certainly possible for a person from Russia to have sickle cell.  A simple blood test called a hemoglobin electropheresis can be done to make the diagnosis.
