Pyelectasis12/04/2006 |
I am 21 weeks pregnant with twins (boy/girl), and my anatomy scan last week showed Pyelectasis in both babies. I was told this is indication of higher risk for down syndrome. Is that true? Would there by any other problems with this condition? How worried should I be?
The term "pyelectasis" means the kidneys are slightly dilated. Mild dilation of the kidneys is very common and usually is not a sign of a major medical problem. The majority of such kids are otherwise normal. These children typically are evaluated after birth to see how much dilation might be present.
