After a failed cervical disc fusion?01/05/2007 |
Had disc fusion at C3-C4 in May 06. Bone has still not fused (12/06). I have stopped anti-inflammatories, and almost completely quit smoking (I have 1-2 cigarettes per day). What else can I be doing/avoiding to help the process. What happens if the bone never fuses?
Thanks for your note. There are many reasons why your vertebrae may not fused, and there may be modalities that can help (e.g., electrical stimulation for bone growth). Our physical therapist colleagues feel that the first step is to return to your orthopedic surgeon to discern what your diagnosis is, and, more importantly, why your bones have apparently not fused. From there, he/she can devise a plan for addressing this problem.
