Breast Feeding

Can I take this?

01/04/2007

Question:

i was wondering if while i am breastfeeding can i take phenylephrine HCI 5mg

Answer:

No infant side effects have been reported through breast milk.

Since it is a stimulant, large and chronic doses should be avoided, as it can cause high blood pressure in the mom, and can lower milk production.

Small, occasional doses such as yours would not likely have any adverse effects.

Just watch for declining milk production if you take it frequently.
