Breast Feeding

Post-delivery hormones

01/30/2007

Question:

I am currently breastfeeding (baby is one month) I have developed a skin rash. Very itchy...on arms, hips, lower legs, and starting on the breasts. One Dr. said that it could be PUPPP (but I guess that only occurs during the third tri) another Dr. said that it is an allergic reaction (the topical oinment is not helping)...it is driving me crazy. Could this be hormonal? If so what can I do to get some relief?

Answer:

This sounds like a yeast rash.

If you are not currently using an antifungal cream, that is the next treatment to try. You should also check your baby for oral thrush and for a yeast diaper rash. Your baby should be treated at the same time as you.

This is not likely hormonal.
