Breast Feeding

How to stop milk supply

02/05/2007

Question:

Is there any way to stop producing milk before my child is born, or to stop right away? I remember there used to be a shot in order to dry up, but I hear that isn`t available any more. If there`s any way to stop myself from producing milk before it starts to come in, I`m desperate to know.

Answer:

There is no way to stop the lactation process prior to delivery.

If you do not wish to breastfeed, it is best to simply not stimulate the breasts after the birth of your child.

Cold compresses also help to prevent lactation phase 2 from proceeding.

Unless you have a contraindication to oral contraceptives, these may also help.
