Very dilute urine09/11/2007 |
I have a six year old boy who has been voiding more and more frequently over the past 4 weeks. Today he voided 18 time even though he only took in 10-12 oz of water. We had the urine tested by dip test and it had a very very low specific gravity and was very dilute. He is making 50-200 cc of urine each time he goes. He is to have a chemistry panel and UA. What could be the cause of this? What should we be looking for? Thanks
There is a condition called the daytime frequency syndrome that often occurs in boys at this age. They urinate 5 to 10 times per hour in small amounts, but typically do not have incontinence, either day or night. I would recommend filling out a voiding and fluid intake diary for several days. Then I would show it to your pediatrician or a pediatric urologist.
