Anesthesia

Right leg siatica and knee surgery

03/20/2007

Question:

Should I worry about the siatica nerve being relaxed during minor orthroscopic knee surgery on the same side? I have had injections in my lower back/spine to relieve pain in the same leg.

Answer:

With arthroscopy, there is minor manipulation of the lower extremity that usually does not exacerbate a sciatica condition. It is always useful, however, to inform your orthopedic surgeon about your concerns.
