Loss of taste04/03/2007 |
My mother is 85 years old, and recently has loss her taste of food. She does wear dentures, which are around 20 years olds. Would poor dental hygiene be a cause of her loss of taste?
It is possible if the hygiene is very bad. She may need to scrape her tongue (with a tongue scraper) to stimulate the papilla in her tongue. I suggest that she may need a new set of dentures. They need to be replaced every 5 years or so. She also may need to go to the doctor to check her general health; it may be related with another disease.
