I am 54 years old and I have always passed a lot of mucous with bowel movements for as long as I can remember. Now that I am older, could this be a sign of something being wrong? Thank you.
Yes, it could be a sign of many things. These things include benign processes, as well as those that are potentially life-threatening. Proctitis, prolapsing hemorrhoids, rectal prolapse, and a polyp are all possibilities. Visit a gastroenterologist for a colon exam to determine the cause.
