Arthritis and Rheumatism

Severe muscle and joint pain

04/26/2007

Question:

I have a nephew who has been recently hospitalized the symtoms are severe muscle and joint pain, rash all over his body and flu like symtoms. They have tested his blood & urine. They have ruled out lyme disease. He is still complaining of all the above. He shuffles his feet when he walks because the pain is so bad. It so sad to see him like this. Do you have any suggestions as to what he may and so he can be tested for it.

Answer:

One might question if your nephew's physicians have screened for dermatomyositis - an inflammatory muscle disease with associated rash. Of course, this is just one of many diagnoses that they will consider.
