Pain Management

Thigh Pain

05/14/2007

Question:

1 week after operation had total numbness in right leg had operation in left leg. Now 4 weeks after operation I have very sensitive upper thigh muscle. Also very bad pin needles in the same upper thigh muscle. Also when I get out of bed and put weight on it, I get a sharp pain like a razor blade cutting my skin and its very painful.

Answer:

It is unclear from your message what kind of operation you have had. From your description, it seems likely that you are suffering from nerve related (neuropathic) pain. If you have seen your surgeon and there is no obvious cause for the pain, you need to see a Pain Specialist or Neurologist and be started on medication for neuropathic pain. Additional interventions may be needed down the line should the pain persist.
