Tooth falling out06/27/2007 |
My mother in law, 79 years old, was brushing her teeth this morning and heard a sound in the sink. It was a tooth. She felt no pain and there was no bleeding. Fortunately we were able to get her to a dentist who was able to give her a retainer (for the wedding! this weekend). Why wouold something like that happen? She does not eat very well but takes no medications except a baby aspirin every day.
She probably has an advance periodontal disease where patients lose bone support until teeth just fall off one by one. It does not have anything to do with medications, and she should have a good diet rich in vegetables, fruits, proteins and some extra calcium. She can find calcium in lacteous products or just reinforcement of vitamin Ca + D.
Check with your dentist, for she may need some periodontal treatment in order to keep the remaining teeth, if it is not too late.
