Bleeding and Clotting Disorders

Essential thrombocytosis?

06/27/2007

Question:

I have a platelet count of 672,000 and a white blood count of 14.9. My neutrophils (10.1) and Monocytes(1.2) are also elevated. I am also Iron Deficient and currently receiving IV treatments. Two in half years ago I had surgery on my ankle which resulted in finding this out. I was told from a Hematologist that I have Leukemia, I thought couldn`t this be something else. I have had every test possible including a bone marrow and no leukemia. I have seen three Hematologists and I still don`t have an answer of what this is - just check my blood every three months. I would like a prognosis at this point - any suggestions? I am a 38 year old female.

Answer:

This is not something one can be addressed in a forum such as NetWellness. Patients in your case need a complete review of their case, including a physical exam and labs. Sometimes, only extended evaluation over time can answer whether you have a bone marrow disorder.
