Arthritis and Rheumatism

Sports and RA

07/02/2007

Question:

For the past month RA has been very quiet. I feel almost like I did before my RA. I want to start playing sports like baseball, basketball, tennis, golf, bowling and riding my bike. I don`t like swimming. Is there any sports that I should avoid or do differently because of my RA? I don`t want to go back to where I was before. I could barely get out of bed.

Answer:

There are no sports to specifically avoid due to RA. If you have a flare-up of RA, I would avoid exercise until the flare-up resolves; then resume regular activities, including sports.
