Blood too Thick

Question:

my brother was admitted into the hospital and he lives in another state. I ask him what was going on? He said that he was admitted because his blood was to thick. He said that this was affecting his kidneys and he was put on blood thinners. What causes the blood to be to thick? I know he has high BP, and some heart condition. It could be other things going but he didn`t share it with me. I just wanted to know the things that causes the blood to be to thick? Thank-You Concerned Sister

Answer:

There are a lot possible things that may be going on, but it sounds like he is referring to blood clotting problems in either the arteries or the veins. Both types of clot are quite different and have many different causes and treatments. It’s difficult to say much more without knowing more details.
