Spina bifda and cauda equina

08/21/2007

Question:

Would like to know is spina bifda and cauda equina vertually one in the same

Answer:

No. The cauda equina is the area where the spinal cord terminates. Spina bifida is a congenital condition where a child is born with part of their spinal contents outside of the body, usually in a sac or pouch. The part outside of the body may be the cauda equina or an area above this level.
