Anxiety and Stress Disorders (Children)

Seeking Treatment for Separation Anxiety

07/24/2007

Question:

My son is 7 years old, and is quite clingy and worries alot. He follows me everywhere around the house, even when I just go to the bathroom. He is always asking where I am going. He suffered from infantile spasms as an infant but all that has been over for a while. He has normal development and does well in school. But at home is very clingy and he is also an excessive talker. Help

Answer:

Your child has a form of separation anxiety and may have other anxiety disorders as well.  Depending upon how long this has been going on and the extent of interference with his social life, I would suggest that you seek the guidance of a mental health professional.
