PET/CT scan to evaluate response to treatment09/20/2007 |
My husband had a total laryngectomy (path report T4a with positive margin) and 6 weeks of radiation and chemotherapy to follow. When would be the appropriate time for a PET/CT scan to be scheduled to evaluate the response to treatment?
Clear guidelines for evaluating the response to treatment have not been established. You should discuss this issue with your ENT surgeon and your medical oncologist. However, in most cases we want to wait at least 8-to 12 weeks to decrease the chance for false positive findings after finishing treatment to order any scans. Best of luck to you and your husband.
