Vascular Surgery

Varicose veins

10/02/2007

Question:

My fiance has varicose veins in his left leg. He had vein stripping surgery when he was a young teenager, which is about 20 years ago. He just developed a bruise behind his knee. He has no pain. Is this something to be concerned about?

Answer:

This may likely be from recurrent leaky valves in the veins. Support or compression stockings can help. If these do not help, I would urge him to see a vascular surgeon who specializes in veins.

Best of luck!
