Menopause

Progesterone cream

11/17/2007

Question:

My progestrone levels are at 11; should I be taking progresterone cream to relieve bloating, moodiness, sadness and weight gain? I ordered it from a web site which says this symptoms would improve with the cream and vitamins. And also what are normal levels. I am not in menopause (40 years old)

Answer:

Progesterone is more likely to be the cause of those symptoms rather than the cure.  Bothersome recurrent premenstrual symptoms are best treated with a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor like Sarafem taken just during that week. If you are concerned about your symptoms, you should discuss this with your physician.
