How high is 234 on iron blood test?10/30/2007 |
My blood test registered an iron level of 234 ug/dL. I had the blood work done at a health fair for work. I do not have a regular physician to ask. I am 24 years old, weight 120 lbs and exercise weekly. I have no medical conditions that I know of. Is that a dangerously high level and what should I do about it?
That level is a little bit on the high side, although there are many causes for it. What would be important in this situation is to repeat the serum iron along with the total iron binding capacity and the ferritin level. Those three tests together give a better assessment of how much iron may actually be in the body and whether or not it is significant. If those are abnormal, then there are other tests that would be appropriate to consider.
