Painful Nodules in the Hands While Tested Negative for RA

11/13/2007

Question:

I`m a 22 year old female. I have had 3 surgeries that have removed nodules from my fingers. The nodules are solid and painful. I have swelling and tingling in my hands. I have tested negative for everything. I am feel like I am at a dead end. I hope you can help.

Answer:

From your symptoms, it sounds like you may have rheumatoid arthritis.  If testing for rheumatoid arthritis has been negative, then examining the contents of the nodules using a microscope may be most helpful in arriving at a diagnosis. You should ask the surgeons what the pathology of the nodules showed.
