Cough Medicine as an Asthma Attack Trigger11/01/2007 |
Can medicine being taken from recovery of a severe cough/cold, lead to an asthma attack?
It is unlikely that traditional over-the-counter cough/cold remedies would trigger an asthma attack (I cannot comment on herbal remedies). However, a viral upper respiratory illness is a very common reason for worsening of asthma control. If you are experiencing symptoms consistent with an asthma attack, I would urge you to seek medical evaluation. It's very possible that your cold/viral illness has contributed to this, but it is unlikely to be related to the over-the-counter medications.
