Da Vinci Surgery and Benefits12/10/2007 |
Can you define the da vinci surgery (I believe some call this the robot surgery)? Also, can you state the pros and cons of this type of surgery?
The Da Vinci surgery is the name of a robot that is sometimes used to assist the surgeons with certain laparoscopic procedures (such as prostate removal). The data shows that the outcomes from the da vinci surgery are equivalent to that of open and laparoscopic surgery, no better and no worse in regards to oncologic outcomes, potency and continence. There are some minor advantages to minimally invasive approaches (ie laparoscopic and robotic) such as decreased blood loss, possibly decreased recovery time and discomfort. The best thing is to pick your surgeon, someone you trust and with good experience, regardless of the approach that is used.
