Menopause

Can one get a hot flash just in one area?

11/17/2007

Question:

I am 54 years old, am still having regular periods, although have only skipped one month twice, four months ago. Recently I have been having in my left buttock and down the back of my thigh a hot flash, which lasts about five seconds and then goes away. It feels as though all of a sudden I`m sitting in a hot seat. Have you ever heard of such a symptom in menapause?

Answer:

The symptom you are describing is not typical of menopause. It may be a variant of sciatica, but you should check with your primary physician.
