Menopause

Premenopausal symptoms in someone age 35-40

01/29/2008

Question:

I am a 37 year old woman....my sex drive is nothing like it was when I was in my 20`s, which causes lots of stress between me and my husband. I also have terrible mood swings and feelings of hopelessness and often rage....can this be attributed to early menopause? My mother began menopause at around age 40.

Answer:

It is possible you are in perimenopause, but if you are having regular menses, it is a little less likely. It is also important to look for other causes of your symptoms, especially anything you might feel annoyed about in the relationship. If there are stresses, talk with a counselor. Review your situation with your primary physician.
