Swollen lips01/15/2008 |
A couple of months ago my top lip became swollen without itching, although i could feel something going on. The other day my bottom lip swelled for no apparent reason. What should I do and what can cause either lip to swell? I have very sensitive skin and rosacea.
Soft tissue swelling or angioedema of the lip can be due to a number of causes including foods, medications, underlying medical conditions such as infection, thyroid disease, connective tissue disorders (autoimmune disorders) and certain hereditary conditions (hereditary angioedema). The most common cause is "idiopathic" or unknown. I would consult a qualified board-certified allergist who can diagnose or exclude underlying causes and recommend effective treatment.
