Loss of smell due to concussion

01/22/2008

Question:

I am a 40year old healthy female. 8 days ago I slipped in my kitchen and fell back hitting the back of my head on the tile floor that knocked me unconscious for almost 1 minute. I awoke with little confusion and have been lucid with no headaches since. Had a small bump on the back of my head that is still a little sore. I have not been able to smell or taste since the fall. My doctor said wait a few days before coming in to him to see if my smell returns. Is this something tho that I should be worried about. Is this common? Will my taste and smell return? Should I get a CT scan or MRI?

Please advise.
