My 6 year old son with swollen penis02/18/2008 |
My son who is aged 6 has complained that he is sore when he urinates, on looking at his penis the base is quite swollen. He has never suffered with anything like this before. The top of the penis is red also. He is well otherwise. What might this be?
There could be two different problems. It sounds like he could have meatitis, which is inflammation of the urinary opening at the tip of the penis and would cause discomfort with urination. Applying an antibiotic ointment to the tip and drinking more fluid usually corrects the problem.Swelling at the base of the penis is generally not serious, but if it persists, he should be seen by his pediatrician.
