what does a protien s antigen elevation combined with a protien activy decrease mean?
Your description of PS does not fit the usual definition so I am afraid I cannot answer your question.
Only free PS is active. Three subtypes of PS deficiency are recognized:
- type I, with decreased levels of both total and free PS antigen (i.e. a quantitative defect);
- type II, with levels of total and free PS antigen within their normal ranges, but a decreased PS activity (i.e. a qualitative defect); and
- type III, with decreased free PS antigen levels while total PS antigen levels are normal
(De Stefano et al, 1996).
