Diet for Diabetes, Hypertension, and Cholesterol

03/03/2008

Question:

I am a diabetic with high blood pressure and cholesterol problems. Could you give me information on what to eat and what to avoid? Thanks.

Answer:

I have provided links to several sites which provide some information however I would strongly encourage you to see a registered dietician, preferably one with a particular interest in diabetes and/or hypercholesterolemia, to guide you in seeing how the rules apply to your own situation.  If you live in Ohio, try the NetWellness referral area for some names.  You may be able to find a dietician through your primary care provider, a local hospital or a local diabetes or cardiology specialist.  Additional web sites to search include the American Dietetic Association and the American Association of Diabetes Educators directories.
