Bladder damage03/12/2008 |
My daughter is 11 yrs old and has Neurofibromatosis type 1. Three weeks ago, she had surgery to remove a cystic neurofibroma in her thoracic spine (T5-T7_ that was causing spinal cord compression. Because of the location of this tumor, her doctors want her to see a pediatric urologist to ensure there is no bladder compromise or damage from this lesion since there was spinal cord compression. What kind of sxs would there be if there is damage? She does have a sense of urgency meaning when she needs to go- she has to go right away. She is scheduled to see a ped. urologist in a couple of weeks and is scheduled for a renal ultrasound at that time. Any insight you could give as far as sxs or anything else would be appreciated. Thanks.
If there were significant injury to the spinal cord from the tumor, most probably she would be experiencing incontinence, or loss of urinary control. Or, she might have difficulty emptying her bladder. A visit with a pediatric urologist seems like a good option.
