Depo provera shot

03/13/2008

Question:

I was on the deprovera shot for 2 years and I quit taking it last June (2007). I still have not recieved my period but I have started having sex again. I was wondering if I was to take a at home pregnency test would it still be acurate and if it was normal for it to take this long to begin having a period again?

Answer:

It can take up to a year for your cycles to return to their previous frequency before you took Depo. This doesn't mean that you are protected from pregnancy, that is only expected to last at least 12 weeks. If you could be pregnant, a pregnancy test would be positive about two weeks after you became pregnant, just like without the depo.
