Excessive gum chewing any link to receeding gums or digestive disorders?
It depends on what type of gum and how excessive the chewing is. There are several factors to think of. Generally, the following are considered as possible factors causing gingival recession:
- Periodontal disease
- Trauma from brushing
- Trauma from surgical extraction
- Sometimes recession seen after orthodontic treatment
- Sometimes trauma from bruxing or grinding teeth
Gum chewing is not one of them, but again, it depends what type of chewing gum (hard/soft/sticky/having cinnamon in it etc) and how much your are chewing. You should consider whether you are bruxing your teeth when you do not have chewing gum in your mouth.
