Gynecology

Unusual discharge

03/20/2008

Question:

I am scheduled for a D&C/hysteroscopy soon for an endometrial polyp. For the last several months, just prior to my period, I have some spotting. Sometimes it is blood-tinged discharge and also looks like a little clump (only way to describe it- it almost has a tissue like appearance) has passed into the toilet when I urinate. Is this normal? It is clear with a little blood mixed in.

Thanks for your time.

Answer:

It is not entirely normal and probably related to the polyp. This is why you are probably having it removed. The D&C/hysteroscopy will evaluate you for any other causes of this premenstrual bleeding.
