Although many people think of the thyroid when they develop a weight problem, it is actually a very rare cause of weight gain. Your doctor can examine your son and test him, if necessary. Far more common is high caloric intake from foods and beverages combined with increased sedentary activity, such as TV, computer, and video games. These lifestyle choices interact with the family genetic tendencies to cause excess body weight.
