Can one person carrie the gene for CF and then have a baby and have the CF gene. because my friend is a carrier and the Dr. said that the gene may have split and then the baby has CF. I thought CF had to have two carriers both people.
In general, both parents of a child diagnosed with CF will be carriers. There is a theoretical possibility of what you describe, but it has never to my knowledge been reported for CF. In order to draw that conclusion, there would need to be special investigations to prove it. This would not be the sort of thing that a physician would ordinarily just offer as an opinion.
Hope this helps.
